Your time is fleeting. Here today. Gone tomorrow. Yet tomorrow is not guaranteed.

You wake up. Wake the kids. Get ready. Shuffle everyone off. Go to work. Pick up the kids. Errands. Dinner. Shower. Bed. Repeat.

The monotony of daily life can be begrudging to say the least. My clients talk about how a day off from work, a family vacation or just a little “me time” can help reset and refresh the mind and body in order to continue to endure the daily monotony and avoid further burnout. These habits and tricks are most certainly a step in the right direction and can be much needed to avoid feelings of stress, anxiety and depression. However, it is not the only way to approach living life mindfully and to its fullest. Instead, do you want to know the #1 one habit that I have witnessed truly transform my clients’ lives so that the daily grind is not so monotonous? Are you ready for this? It's simply a positive mindset! Now let me say this: a positive mindset does not just happen overnight. It is something you work on daily just like your job, relationships and goals. One easy way to begin working on a positive mindset is to pick a mantra to live by. Mantras help you remind yourself of what really matters to you so that you may become more conscious of your responses, feelings and choices. As a result, a mantra can help you become more mindful and enable you to live your life to its fullest!

The 5X5 Rule

If it won’t matter in five years, then don’t spend more than five minutes stressed (upset, worried, overwhelmed, etc.) about it.Part of being human is embracing that we have negative feelings including worry, fear, doubt, stress, anger and so on. With this mantra, you can learn to reign in your emotions by simply asking yourself, “will this matter in five years?” If your answer is “nope,” then you are choosing to engage in the tactic of picking and choosing your battles and essentially not letting your negative emotions get the best of you. So next time you feel negatively toward a person or situation, ask yourself this simple little question.

Every day is a good day

(but some are better than others)Waking up and telling yourself that “today is a good day” is an easy way to start off everyday positively. Mindset is half the battle for most. When you choose to tell yourself something is “bad,” then clearly that is what you believe. On the flip side, if you choose to tell yourself something is “good,” then guess what? You will train yourself to see the good in things, people, situations or more importantly, life!

What you give is what you get

How about digesting this mantra for a little food for thought? When you send out love, kindness, patience, joy and peace, then it is said it finds its way back to you. Think about it though, when someone gives you a smile, then in return you are inclined to do the very same right back at her. So choosing to put out more good than bad can only help you breed more positive vibes in your life.

I am enough

As a Certified Health Coach and Personal Trainer, I hear clients say, “I can’t” every. single. day. My response is, “who told you that you can’t?” When you doubt your ability to challenge yourself, push yourself and ultimately, change yourself, then you are actually lacking self efficacy. However, when you remind yourself that you do in fact have what it takes to reach your goals or that you are ENOUGH, then you embrace that the sky is in fact your personal limit. And, my friend, the sky is in fact limitless!

Tomorrow is never guaranteed

Procrastination is the bane of human existence. Putting off the things that your heart most desires is only holding you back from living your life to its fullest. The past is in the past, the future may never come, and TODAY is a gift. Show gratitude to your loved ones TODAY. Follow your dreams TODAY. Live in TODAY!

My mantra is: THE EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM. Living by this mantra gives me the opportunity to wake up early so I will have time to walk on the treadmill, get myself together for the day ahead and more importantly, avoid the feeling of rushing through my day. Without this mantra I would be like so many others, procrastinating to the last minute which does not feel like truly living to me.- Alyson Nalley, Mortgage Loan Processor United Community Bank
