Go Natural For Antibiotics

When you go to your doctor with an ear or sinus infection or even strep throat, it is likely you will be prescribed an antibiotic to help kick your ailment. You will then take it to your pharmacy where you will receive a neatly packaged pill or liquid, which certainly makes treating your illness a little less cumbersome than it once was.

Fun Facts

The use of antibiotics date back to ancient times. In fact, it has been discovered that Egyptians prescribed various lotions to treat infected wounds using ingredients like foods, herbs, and aromatic resins. Additionally, the Greeks and Indians often used plants and molds to treat similar ailments. Despite what can be described as the simplicity of ancient antibiotics, the medicine has evolved into a very sophisticated form over many years. Most notably, in 1928, a Scottish biologist Sir Alexander Fleming discovered the antibiotic penicillin. Since his discovery less than a century ago, an antibiotic revolution sparked with the development of new synthetic medicines closely related to the natural remedies our ancestors once used. The benefit of such a discovery is the ability to now take an an antibiotic in a conventional form of a pill, liquid, or perhaps even an injection. Antibiotics are meant to prevent, manage, and treat infectious disease and other health related problems caused by bacteria. However, over the past few decades, an increase in antibiotic use has led to drug resistant “super bugs” that are becoming more and more difficult to treat with the same medicines. This has encouraged many scientists, health care providers, and moms and dads alike to reach a little back further to our roots. That's where natural antibiotics come in. Our ancestors had solutions to healing using natural remedies that ultimately led to Fleming’s famous discovery of penicillin. So,why not remind ourselves of those things that worked well for them?
