It’s officially fall!

Thought it may not yet feel like it here in the South, it does mean that Apple season is upon us. Today’s recipe focus is a quick, no cook snack option that is a nutritional powerhouse, packed with phytonutrients, fiber, unsaturated fat, and protein. Try out and try this twist on the traditional “peanut butter and apple” snack combo and pair it with almond butter instead.

Preparation tip: Slice an apple so it is easy to eat discretely if you find yourself ‘people-facing’ and having to take stealth bites to fit snack time in at your work station. Hello, bank tellers!

The above scenario is a common barrier to making snack time happen. I hear it often during nutrition consultations, and while this working environment may influence options, it certainly does not mean you can’t snack wisely with some planning. Pair your apple slices with 1 TBSP of almond butter for the dipping. The dose of protein and fat will make this snack more satisfying than snacking on the apple alone, and it goes without saying that it is a better option than another typical seasonal pairing of apple slices and caramel dip. As you can see from the list of ingredients and instructions below, preparation of healthy, satisfying snacking does not have to be time consuming or involved!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Apple, sliced
  • 1 TBSP almond butter

Instructions:

  • Slice apple.
  • Dip in almond butter and enjoy!
