Go Green, With a Smoothie

I got this recipe from a yoga teacher who got it from another yoga teacher so not really sure who first came up with the idea, but I’ve been drinking this for breakfast, and it really gives a boost of energy!

Besides being incredibly easy to make, this smoothie is packed with nutrients: potassium, magnesium, vitamins B6 and B9 just to name a few from the spinach. The banana provides a good dose of vitamin B6 and potassium, while the milk gives calcium and protein. It seems a lot easier to get enough fruits in during the day, but if you are like me, it’s harder to eat the requisite amount of vegetables. Why not drink your veggies; you may just take a liking to it!

Introducing the Green Goddess…

Just three ingredients.

  • Two cups of raw spinach
  • One banana
  • One cup of plant-based milk

And one piece of instruction.

Put all three ingredients in the blender and puree for a minute or so. That’s it. Easy peasy!

*Just a word about the banana. Lately, I’ve been popping slightly brown bananas in the freezer to use for this power drink. You can leave the banana in its peel to freeze and when you are ready to use it, take a knife and gently remove the frozen skin, the stem and the end. Chop the frozen banana into a few sections before putting in the blender with the rest of the items. The frozen banana lends a creamy sweet texture to the smoothie. Or if your banana is not frozen, toss a few ice cubes in and whirl it up.
