Healthy grocery shopping can be tough, but it doesn’t have to be! Here are a few quick tips to help ensure your shopping trip remains easy and healthy.
Make a meal plan first
Would you build a house without a foundation? Your meal (and snack) plan is your foundation for your health and nutrition. If you shop for your groceries weekly, simply create a list of your meals and snacks for the week with required ingredients. Then, transfer those ingredients to your shopping list or to a pickup order. If you need some help organizing your meals, there are plenty of meal planning guides that you can find online, or you can download a free meal prepping and planning app such as Yummly or FoodPlanner.
Use pickup grocery services
Preorder and pickup services are your friend if you are restricted on time or find that you are the kind of shopper that’ll grab unnecessary items off the shelf. Many chain grocers like Walmart or Publix now offer this service online or through their apps. Simply select your groceries via search, place it in your cart, select your pickup time, pay, and pick up your groceries for your meal plan.

Shop the perimeter
Staying to the perimeter of your grocery store is your best game plan while shopping in-store. From produce, to dairy, to meat, most stores are aligned or make it easy for the healthy shopper. Occasional items like nuts, seeds, beans, rice, and spices may require that you head into the aisles and that’s perfectly okay.
Schedule your shopping.
Routines can be beneficial to ensure you avoid shopping when you are crunched for time, super hungry, or unable to preplan. Choose a time of the week to get your groceries stocked, and begin consistently going at that time.
Treat yourself once a week.
Moderation is key when it comes to a successful diet plan long term. If you like chocolate, chips, cookies...it's ok! But try to make the (normal size) bag last all week long instead of finishing it in one sitting and stick to only one treat per week.Click HERE to learn more about the Wellview services available to you.
