Control is such a powerful concept, isn't it?

We all crave and pursue it on some level (some of us more than others!). With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, we are exploring and highlighting blog topics around this disease that will affect 1 in 8 American women in her lifetime. Though all women are vulnerable to developing breast cancer, certain women do pose a higher risk.

Some risk factors can’t be controlled, such as family history, gene mutations, onset of menstruation and menopause. We refer to these as non-modifiable risk factors. Other risk factors can be altered, such as diet and lifestyle choices; these we refer to as modifiable risk factors. Maintaining a healthy weight, getting enough sleep, engaging in regular physical activity, limiting alcohol intake, breastfeeding your babies, and consuming a diet rich in colorful produce may reduce your risk of developing breast cancer.

When it comes to health promotion and reducing risk of disease, focus your energy on the modifiable risk factors, the ones that ARE within your control. Do you need assistance modifying your behaviors around any of these areas? Our team is ready to support you on your journey. Please reach out today to get started!
