It's that time of year where beating the heat is one of your top priorities. Maintaining a regular exercise regimen to keep your body toned and maintain your weight without compromising your pool time is key to the summer season.

Here is a 5 minute arm-toning routine using just a few pool dumbbells. (Begin in a pool with water about shoulder height.)

Arm circles forward

With dumbbells in hand, lift your arms out to your side so that your shoulder elbow and wrists are in alignment.

Begin to draw medium to large sized circles forward with your arms.

Continue the movement for 1 minute.

Push and pull

Lift your arms about shoulder height with dumbbells out in front of your chest and in line with your elbows. Squeeze the shoulder blades. This is your starting position.

Begin by pressing the dumbbells out in front of your body into a full arm extensions and then rowing it back to your start potion.

Push and pull for 1 minute.

Fireman swings

Lengthen your arms down by your sides with dumbbells in hand. Roll your shoulders back and brace your core.

Begin alternating your arms in a swinging motion like you are walking. Use the resistance of the water against the dumbells to feel the burn.

Continue this swinging for 1 minute.

Open and close

With dumbbells in hand, lift your arms out to your side so that your shoulder elbow and wrists are in alignment. This is your starting position.

Begin to close your arms in toward one another until both hands touch then open back to your starting position.

Repeat this open and close motion for 1 minute.

Arm circles backwards

With dumbbells in hand, lift your arms out to your side so that your shoulder elbow and wrists are in alignment.

Begin to draw medium to large sized circles backwards with your arms.

Continue the movement for 1 minute.
