Shamrock Smoothie

Healthy Eating

This Thursday, we are all a little Irish. If you’re looking for a festive and tasty food, or something to serve your family that you can feel good about eating, skip over the McDonald’s Shamrock shake and make shamrock smoothies at home, instead!

Smoothies can be a great meal replacement (think breakfast on the go) or a snack, depending on what you include and your own nutritional needs. With that in mind, you always want to make sure to include a protein source, and you're good to go with this smoothie, as it has protein from both milk and yogurt. It is both satisfying and a great choice for your bone health given the calcium sources from dairy and dark leafy greens.

Just like we all know there's a difference between a salad that's actually healthy and one that's topped with fried meat and smothered in ranch, smoothies can vary greatly in terms of their nutritional content. If you're not careful, you can lose the healthy part you intended to enjoy. So, I generally aim to have one part fruit to two parts leafy greens, and then I add a protein and some fat for the satiety factor.

Ready? Put on your green, bust out the blender, and let's get healthy this St. Patrick's Day!
