Build Strength and Tone in the Pool

The next time you splash into the pool, do some push-ups! Yes, you can get a great workout in the pool without feeling the burn. Water makes you more buoyant, so you feel lighter, can balance better, and put less impact on your joints. The pool is a perfect place to work out because of the decreased gravitational pull, which means you can challenge your muscles with less effort.Water workouts can be as simple or complex as you feel ready to try. Group workouts combine running, kicking, and the use of pool noodles for upper body exercises. Other workouts include high-intensity cardio exercises and plyometric power moves with resistance bands. If you keep moving, a pool workout can burn about 300 calories in 30 minutes, tone muscles, and boost strength.

3 Ways to Boost Your Burn

1. Engage Your Core. Just like when working out on land, tighten your abdominal muscles to maintain balance and to reap the rewards of isometric exercises.2. Keep Your Heart Rate Up. Keep moving and challenging yourself while making sure to maintain good form throughout each exercise.3. Don't Forget to Hydrate! Yes, you still sweat in the water! Pool workouts feel refreshing and light, but they are still hard work. So, drink water and stretch. You'll be feeling it later! Ready to give it a try? Check out this summertime pool workout!
