Are you a Southern food comforter eater?

If you are, let’s talk…Consuming food deep fried in unhealthy oils has many negative health effects. First of all, deep frying foods in unstable oils at high temperatures can sometimes chemically alter the oil during the cooking process, causing the production of carcinogens. Secondly, fried foods laden with oil become more calorically dense than their less oily counterpart. This can be troublesome for anyone wishing to watch his or her caloric intake. Lastly, research shows that eating fried foods regularly can increase the risk of Diabetes, heart disease and obesity.A new way of frying foods has officially hit the cooking world by storm and it is called Air Frying. An air fryer is actually a kitchen appliance that cooks food using a convection mechanism, circulating hot air around the food. This type of cooking requires a thin layer of oil on the foods for similar taste, texture and consistency.Learn more here.

Air fryers claim to promote weight loss and safer cooking methods compared to deep fried foods. But is that true? The benefit of lowering oil required to fry the food most certainly decreases calories, as well as decreases risk of unwanted health risks. An air fryer requires less oil to give a similar consistency and flavor to foods as compared to deep frying. So, while deep frying food is never the healthiest option in your culinary repertoire, the air fryer is a healthier option when you get that comfort food craving!
