“No” Is a Complete Sentence

This time of year is when I see folks (self included) starting to get frantic, scurrying around trying to do this or that before the holiday(s). So much of your fitness has to do with your thoughts. Thoughts shape your life. If you rush around you truly miss the moment. A lifetime of missed moments leads to a life not even fully lived. Now is the perfect time to take a breath, reclaim your time by learning the power of saying “No.”Scaling back the things you say “yes” to is a good start. Here are some practical tips for reclaiming your life and your sanity.

Ask yourself, is this really important in the long run? Here is an example. Maybe you like to decorate your house for the holidays but you are feeling stressed about it. Our feelings like signposts that point you to whether this is a “yes” or “no” decision. If you notice a sense of dread comes over you when it’s time to decorate your house, maybe it’s just not important to you. Perhaps just one holiday decoration is enough this year.Notice your language. “Well I really should go to that cookie sway at my neighbor’s house.” When you become of aware of the “shoulds” just gently question yourself to see if you can let yourself off the hook.Check in with yourself frequentlySee if there are ways to get some time to yourself and say “no” to doing anything that does not serve your higher good. That includes spending time with people who you may not really enjoy being around. It’s OK to stay home and take a bubble bath and miss that party. Nourishing yourself can come first. Then you will be more fully present to those around you.===================================================================We are also here to help!
