Tips For Staying Productive When Working From Home

For a lot of us, working from home is a new change! These tips will help you make the most of your workday from home.

DESIGNATE A WORKSPACE

Establish an area in your home where you are comfortable — but not so comfortable as to fall asleep! Commit to working in this area every workday.

CREATE A SCHEDULE

This is key! Write down a to-do list with specific times to get tasks done. Be sure to include breaks, and don’t be afraid to use a timer! Keep your typical office hours. Use your former commute time to start incorporating more intentional morning and evening routines. You could make a gratitude list every morning, and in the evenings, you could try out new dinner recipes that you haven’t had time to make in the past.

SET SOME RULES FOR OTHERS IN YOUR HOME

Create rules that will limit distractions. Align your children’s schedule with your own. Take breaks together and try to have some fun! Allow some celebration or reward time when the workday goes smoothly.

MOVE YOUR BODY

Get up and get moving! Take a couple of laps around your house, or go for a walk down the street. You can commit to a daily workout challenge! Get friends involved, and check on each other at the end of the day. (“How did you 50 squat challenge go today?”)

TURN OFF DISTRACTIONS

Turn off the TV and Netflix when you are working. Place your phone in a designated area and schedule phone time. Act as if you are in the office.

STAY OUT OF THE KITCHEN

Prepare your meals as if you were leaving your house. Prep your snacks and lunch. Cut up fruits, vegetables, and your other favorite, healthy snacks to have on hand. Otherwise, you may end up in the kitchen longer than you think.

CONNECT WITH YOUR CO-WORKERS

Set up a time to video chat with your coworkers. Share your journey and listen to others. What is working? What isn’t working? Connect with your families, too! Create a challenge for everyone to complete, then share with each other!

TURN OFF THE LIGHTS

This one may sound strange, but you’ll thank us later! Soak in all of the natural light in your house during the day. And save a little money at the end of the month when the electric bill comes!
