1. Begin with a simple review of what is mindfulness.
2. Answer this question: Why mindfulness?
Explore your personal expectations and the pros and cons of creating a Mindfulness practice in your life.
3. Explore your options.
For some, mindfulness can look like eating a meal slowly and intentionally or having quality play time with the kids. For others, this may be a time of journaling and reflecting on self or partaking in a guided meditation. There is no right or wrong way to become more mindful. Just enjoy learning what organically fits into your life.
4. Make a regular commitment to be mindful.
Again, this looks and feels different for each individual. However to get better at being mindful, just like most other things in life, we must commit to a routine practice. So try setting a goal for just five minutes a day and let it evolve as you learn what works best for you.
5. Deepen your practice and grow.
Over time, I have learned that the components that support a more mindful life for me personally is a mixture of several things like time in nature, journaling, and quality time with family and friends. However, the one thing that I can layer into each and every day is meditation. I have found that guided meditations that encourage breath work and/or a body scan typically offer my mind, body, and soul the most centering, grounding and present feeling that I can conjure up. As a result, this is my go to every morning for 10-30 minutes as I start my day. Once you find your own go-to practice, try making a regular commitment long term and notice the shifts in your life.
