Creating your 2018 Vision Board

A vision board is a new way to approach your New Year’s resolutions. It’s easy to make a list of things we want to happen for the year approaching but taking time to visualize it and make it tangible is one of the most powerful and sacred exercises you can do. You have heard the saying, “seeing is believing.” Well, several studies have proven that this is an accurate truth. In fact, in a 2014 study, From mental power to muscle power -- gaining strength by using the mind, researchers found that those who physically completed an exercise improved by 53% and those who mentally completed an exercise improved by 35% within a 12 week period. Those who did not participate neither physically or mentally showed no significant improvement.

Thus, in conclusion, the study supports that mental training can enhance the part of the brain that plays a huge role in consciousness, which in this case, drove muscle activation resulting in enhanced strength. This goes to show the power of the mind and visualization outcomes. Can you imagine if you take time to visualize what you want and make it something tangible, how much more feasible it actually can be?Well, no need to imagine. It’s time to make it so!

Here are a few quick tips to get your 2018 Vision Board ready for action!

1.Choose your canvas. The right supplies is a must for your vision board. If you enjoy crafting, you may choose a sturdy poster board or a good sized bulletin board and purchase some magazines or collect some free pamphlets that attract you. If you'd rather utilize the technology at your fingertips, you can begin with a blank page to copy and paste things onto.2. Give it a Title. Just as Marc Hauser describes in his TEDTALK, naming your dreams can give them life and true meaning. Say your vision board is for your 43rd year alive, you could give it a title like Chapter 43: Learning to Love Myself Again. Maybe this year you desire to live more presently and commit to a regular exercise routine, so you could choose to name your board 2018-Move More Mindfully. Whatever your major intention is for the next year, let it guide you in discovering your inner most desires for your annual vision.3. Collect your content.Start sorting through your resources and supplies. Copy or cut (dependent on your preferred canvas) everything that is important to you this year: relationships, self-care, travel, work and finances, health, spiritual life, social life, education, etc. As you are clipping out things, notice the things you are naturally drawn to. It is important to pay close attention to where your energy goes because that can signify that you may desire to maintain or change these areas in your life. 4. Build it and it will come! These tips are interchangeable in the sense that one may actually reveal itself while you are working on the other(s), or you could be working on all of them at the same time. No matter the order you take these tips, the main objective is to make your dreams something more tangible as you visualize your deepest needs and desires. So set aside some quiet time with no distractions to create your board. Once your vision board is complete, place it in an area of your home or work that you will see daily as a reminder of this year’s journey and goals. Keep in mind that your vision may change as the year passes day by day, so do not be afraid to modify your it along the way. I see positive things coming your way in 2018!
